The things we do for free golf! I started my volunteer duties at Pinecrest this past Sunday afternoon. I was a starter which meant I managed subscribed tee times and also parceled out times to walk ups and call ins. Marshaling is fairly easy. You maybe light up a cigar hop in a cart, drive around and tell people to "pick it up" if the pace is to slow or great job if so deserved. The one thing you don't do is say things like "I've seen better swings on a playground."
Now starting is a bit different. You actually need to be organized. You need to be able to associate a name with a face and that's not my strong suite. There weren't massive backups at the first tee or golfers waving clubs and chasing me on foot and with carts, but it was close.
